Bristol Field House Dome Project, Geneva
Challenge
Marlock Electric was proud to be a part of the new 83,000-square-foot multi-purpose indoor inflatable fieldhouse at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. This inflatable dome houses an artificial turf playing field that converts to five tennis, and four basketball courts. We were called to install the new wiring, and an electrical service that was able to provide enough power to keep the dome inflated at all times. The colleges also expressed their concern with their power going out, causing the dome to deflate.
Solution
This project consisted of installing an 800 amp 480 v electrical service which provides more than enough power to keep the dome inflated, as well as power for the HVAC equipment, lighting, and receptacles. We also installed an 80 kw automatic standby generator which will assure the dome stays inflated if there is ever an interruption of power. That source of protection can now put the colleges at ease as the dome will never lose power thanks to the generator. This project involved running numerous amounts of underground conduits throughout the playing field to distribute power, data, and a fire alarm throughout the building.
