Why yearly generator maintenance is necessary

Challenge

This Phelps, NY homeowner had an automatic standby generator installed at his home. Each year we suggest you get the unit checked and the fluids changed to keep it in tip top shape for when it's needed most, in a power outage. 

We were out performing our regular yearly maintenance when the battery tested out poorly. This could have been a catastrophe had the power gone out in the middle of the night. 

Solution

The yearly maintenance saved the Phelps homeowner from suffering the consequences that many do in a power outage and that is the drain on the generator battery over time causing it to not have enough power to start up the unit when the power outage occurs. We were able to test the battery and found that it was more than 75% drained and it would not power up the unit when the technician tested it out. We have batteries on hand most of the time and in this case we did. He installed the new battery and everything tested out fine giving the homeowner peace of mind for another year.
